Section 1 of the High Line — Gansevoort Street to 20th Street — will open to the public on June 9, 2009. Park hours will be 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM daily.

"The High Line was built in the 1930s, as part of a massive public-private infrastructure project called the West Side Improvement. It lifted freight traffic 30 feet in the air, removing dangerous trains from the streets of Manhattan's largest industrial district. No trains have run on the High Line since 1980. Friends of the High Line, a community-based non-profit group, formed in 1999 when the historic structure was under threat of demolition. Friends of the High Line works in partnership with the City of New York to preserve and maintain the structure as an elevated public park."

"Some people think that a rep is just there to get you the work, but I am one half of a team. Photographers need to be proactive in getting out there themselves shooting personal work, meeting with people and getting editorial work. In order to make it, you have to be really likable, professional, responsible and a really fantastic photographer. If you are all of these things, you will be getting work and you will need a rep on your team.

One of the biggest mistakes people make is they have a portfolio and then they just wait for the work to come in. If you aren’t constantly pushing yourself and growing as a photographer–you see this all the time where the work doesn’t change and the book is the same from year to year–then you’re dead in the water and not getting work and will continue to not get work. You need to be testing and shooting for yourself all of the time."

Attended the ADC Gala last night. Was greeted at the door with Vodka Gimlets and Manhattens. Followed by hor'dourves and fresh oysters.. After a two hour award presentation consisting of some killer advertising...dinner was served up buffet style followed by music and video mash ups delights by Eclectic Method.

You Tube won the Vision Award. Did you know if You Tube were a country it would be the 3rd largest in the world? Other winners included O&M, JWT, Saatchi, Wired, and NY Times T Magazine. Full list here.

Working as a photo rep and living with a roommate who is a photographer, makes doing my job from home a touch complex at times...as far as privacy and confidentiality.

New York life has become a little stressful...winter blues are hard to shake when its still cold, and the economy is pitiful. And as most are aware, a tight cash flow = less drinking, no eating out, no shopping, and staying away from covers and admissions...boooring.

Many nights have been spent at home a) because every time I step outside I spend money, and b) because it's still fricken cold out there! This has lead to a lot of spare time devoted to work, which is fine because I love my job, but it also means not enough time has been spent enjoying this amazing city...and that makes me sad.

That said...this weekend, I'm starting my workout regime, getting a hair cut, going shoe shopping, and perhaps dragging out the camera (which has by now gathered an inch of dust) and starting up a new project.

Life can still be sunshine and roses during a recession in New York, you just have to find the most economical way to make it happen!

Recently came across this spot on Glossy.

An IT genius over in London built a computer out of 24 256 MB flash drives, 6 TB in total, which basically makes it the fastest computer like...ever. Over 2000 GB a second! The computer opens 53 programs in 18 seconds, and rips a DVD in 0.8 seconds...0.8!

Money is tight and I was on the fence about whether to submit, but like most that submitted, wanted to see what would or could happen.

This particular project has a very personal meaning and purpose. Those that know me well, know I am quite nostalgic. When walking into the farm house, distinct childhood memories of sleepovers with grandpa and grandma and of family holidays at the farm come flooding back. The house is run down and will likely not last another 5 years. The still standing memories will be lost along with it's contents. This project was my attempt in visually documenting those memories. These are only two of several...

Foreign lands on the horizon...

Recently acquired Rosetta Stone along with ten languages. Italian won the battle over French due to it's crossover into Spanish, and Portuguese.

The plan is to speak the language fluently by the end of the year and move to a villa, where I will divide my time between Italy and Spain, eventually working my way to Brazil, where my only worry will be which beach to catch some sun, and which cafe' to sip my espresso.

I also plan to win the lottery, own a loft in Manhatten, and marry Adrian Grenier.

Recap of 2008 (condensed version):

• January 29th, finally took the plunge and made the move to NYC on a whim, jobless, with 3 suitcases and a temporary home. I was 12 when I first saw myself living in NYC.
• 2 days after the move, assisted a fashion photographer during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week 2008. Fashion Week was a place I had wanted to experience since I was a young teen obsessed with runway images.
• Assisted amazing set designer Brian LeBreque on a Gray Scott shoot. Gray happened to be one of my favorite fashion photographers at the time
• 1 month after the move, landed a job as a Studio Manager for Luciana Pampalone
• Luciana happened to know one of my favorite still life shooters, Richard Gary. Long before my move to NYC I was a loyal follower of Richards editorial work in Zink and hoped to work with both him and the magazine someday.
• Richard and I met, and formed one of the most amazing friendships one can have, and continue to have to this day.
• Landed a position as a Rep at Marnie Rose Agency. The same agency who happened to represent the Photographer I was currently working for.
• Obtained a great new apt in BKLYN
• Had my very first group show at Talman + Monroe.
• Along the journey...I have met and shook hands with the same brilliant and talented photographers I look up to, have been to more parties, photo openings, and events than I can list in this page, and have been lucky enough to acquire some of the most amazing friends a girl can have.

Power of thought is a beautiful thing.

• Last week attended the SPD Louped In photo editor lecture at FIT.
Hetherington did a nice little write up here. Ran into several familiar faces and proceeded to gather for drinks after...always a fantastic time.

• It was brought to my attention that I had completely forgotten about the photo opening in Woodstock of one of my greatest friends, Richard Gary. I was deeply saddened by this realization. Attending his opening meant more to me than anything...and I forgot. Thankfully, the show has a good chance at be included in next years NYPH (New York Photo Festival), so I will have a chance to redeem myself and show the love.

• Last Thursday attended the American Photography 24 Annual launch party. It was a $50 well spent. Fantastic food, an endless flow of tasty beverages, and an amazing crowd of photographers, illustrators, editors, and art directors. Yet another write up from mister Hetherington here.

In regards to my most recent post...I most definitely spoke too soon.

The day after, not only did I land the perfect apartment with a fellow photographer, but I was offered a Junior Photo Rep position at Marnie Rose Agency, AND obtained a shooting job off of craigslist.

I gave myself a day to debate both the apartment and the job, but decided I would be an idiot to turn down either.

Money woes can finally take a back seat, stress levels are down, and anxiety filled dreams are being replaced with pleasant ones.

This weekend will be the first in months that I do not spend glued to craigslist and various creative job banks stressing myself out.

*big sigh of relief*

Man, this city just loves to rain rejection doesn't it? Jobs, apts, men...rejection rejection rejection.

People tell you to stay positive and motivated because when something fails, that only means something better is right around the corner. I say, easier said than done. It's quite difficult to be the optimist when the moment you pick yourself up and dust yourself off from the previous let down, the moment another good thing seems to appear on the horizon, you realize you were wrong and you are knocked right back down on your ass.

Sometimes a girl can't help but start to take everything personally.
